Sunday Post 13: I’m Back

Aug 12

The last time I posted an “In My Mailbox” was back on April 22nd of this year.  The following week was a crazy week in the blogging world and an awakening for me.  Sickened by the idea of “showing off” all my new books, I decided to stop participating in this traditional Sunday meme.

Four months later, I realize that I really miss checking out all the new books everyone is getting and seeing what everyone is reading or is going to read.  I also miss going around and finding new blogs (although I suck at keeping up on my commenting ~ Kimba is the queen of that realm!).

So with a new look to my blog, I’m wading back into the shallow end.  Honestly, I haven’t gotten many new books lately because I’ve been spending most of my time working on the format, widgets and redirections for my blog now that it’s over at WordPress.

Bought

Yep, I went and done it.  I succumbed to the pressure and read all three Fifty Shades.  It started off innocently enough; I took Fifty Shades of Grey out from the library.  I refused to pay for the book (I don’t know, I was reading all the negative reviews and got a big ‘ole burr up my butt about it).  Before I even finished the first book, the bag in the above picture was sitting on the front seat of my car (*hangs head in shame*).  I’ll be doing my review as soon as I get 10 other reviews done :)

Won

I won this AWESOME book from Rebecca at Kindle Fever during the Wicked Wildfire Read-a-Thon – THANK YOU!!  If you haven’t done one of her and April @ My Shelf Confession‘s Read-a-Thons yet, you really should!!!  They are a ton of fun and totally no pressure!!

Soooo, what books came home to live with you this week?

And just so you know, I’m working on my commenting system right now because both CommentLuv and Disqus refuse to cooperate with me.  Sorry if you have any problems!  I’ll definitely come around and visit ya sometime on Sunday, though :)

  1. Hey welcome back to showing off your pile! I love the Fifty Shades. Just cause some people hate a book doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a go or feel shame for enjoying it. Everyone is different. I read them before they blew up and found them addicting. Maybe not the greatest thing every but I really enjoyed them! Really excited to read Girl of Nightmares!

    • EXACTLY!! I’m such a goober for poo-pooing Fifty before I read them. They are just like Twilight; you know it’s not good literature, but it’s so addicting. I say there’s a place and audience for every book! I wish I had read them before they took off so I didn’t have such a negative view going into the books.

But they were fun, sassy reads! Thanks for stopping by!!!

  2. Welcome back! I haven’t read the Fifty Shades series yet, but I’m super curious about it since all of the drama over it started. I’ve read the first chapter and I think the writing is pretty terrible but who knows maybe it will turn into one those guilty pleasures or something.
I still need to read Anna Dressed in Blood, but the second one looks so good. I hope you enjoy all of your books!!

    • With Fifty, you just have to turn off your brain and go with the flow. I suggest getting on the waiting list at your library like I did (ebook, of course, I was too shy to advertise). Only problem is so many books in the world, so little time…

      Thanks for stopping by!!!

  3. Bwahaha… you did it! I don’t think I’m curious enough to read 50 Shades… at least not yet. lol

Oh yeah, didn’t you win like every contest from the WWReadathon? :P kidding..

    • And what is that widget called that you’re using for the blog buttons?

      • My pain in the butt template has one redeeming quality, it’s sliders. All my blogroll is is a slider widget for your sidebar. I looked in the plug-ins and there are a few for that (I think?) but don’t ask me which one works :P I still suck on my “WordPress-ing”

And nooooooo, I did NOT win every prize in the read-a-thon! I missed one or two (ha!). I love those girls and their wicked read-a-thons!! I’m looking forward to Kimba’s!!

  4. You make me laugh cupcake. I am glad you are back and your Fifty Shades of Grey story brought tears to my eyes. I haven’t caved yet..but I am looking forward to hearing your thought. I have the first book Anna Dressed in Blood and maybe someday i will get to read it..LOL. Thanks for being a part of The Sunday Post
Your blog looks awesome by the way :)

    • I got Anna Dressed when it was on sale and, shhhhh, I still have to read it, too. But the absolutely stellar reviews and freaking gorgeous cover had me jumping at the opportunity to own the hardcover (drool).

I’m glad I make someone laugh… my hubs just rolls his eyes :) You’re awesome girlie and thx for visiting!!!

  5. I’m still on the wait list at my library for the first 50 Shades book (going on two months now!). Honestly at this point, I don’t want to read it anymore, but I’ll probably skim it out of curiosity.

I bought Anna Dressed in Blood recently. I don’t usually read YA, but the blurb sounded super creepy, and I love those kinds of stories (plus there was a great Kindle deal on it!!).

    • I picked up that same Kindle deal, too!! Besides the ghost story, I was curious about a woman writing a guy’s POV and if she could pull it off.

  6. Hehe, I don’t think I’m curious enough yet to give in and read the 50 Shades. ;). Hope you enjoy them. Have a great week.

  7. I think that crazy week shocked us all. I always like to see what books people are getting, so i see the mailboxish memes as a way to find new books, not “showing off” Plus, it’s a fun excuse to visit all my buddy blogs :) Be proud of being a 50 Shades reader, the books are popular for a reason, I enjoyed the series. Anyhow, have a great week, Book Savvy Babe

    • Oh, I’m totally proud… NOW! It really was a fun read! I sure wish I had a Christian in my life at some point :D

  8. Good haul of book! Glad your back participating in Sunday Meme’s! I don’t know what your blog looked like before but right now it is beyond gorgeous :D
I look forward to your review of the 50 shades series LOL

New followers and also returning the comment love!!!!

  9. Kimba really is excellent at visiting and commenting, isn’t she? :D But, we do the best we can; don’t stress over it, blogging should be fun.

And on that note, I sometimes find myself questioning whether a mailbox post is good or if it’s just shameless bragging. I like sharing and I like seeing what others have; I have found many books that way, and new blogs. So, when I do my post I try to be picky about what I share and not just go “Lookee Lookee what I got!” Though I’ve been guilty of that. Still, the idea is to share and if we do with that intention, I think we’re ok.

Good to see you back and good luck getting everything sorted out with the new blog home. Moving, any kind of relocating, is a pain. :D

    • See! I totally agree! Amen to the sista, she’s got it!! Well said! Like this week, I wanted to make sure I thanked Rebecca for my book win! So of course I’m going to advertise her and April’s read-a-thons. And if I buy books, that’s a whole other ballpark – that’s just me spending my hub’s money foolishly ;)

      Thanks for visiting!

  10. Lucky you winning Anna #2!! I just finished the 1st book and can’t wait to see where Blake goes with the story!

Thanks for stopping by My Added to the Bookshelf Post!

  11. Nice haul this week! I hope you like Girl of Nightmares! I haven’t read it yet but the first one was good.

  12. I know a lot of people didn’t like fifty Shades but I loved it. It was all wrong and all right at the same time. I’m glad you succumbed that cliffhanger gets ya! Enjoy the rest of the series and your other books.
